How it's calculated
Gain needed is the loss divided by what's left, expressed as a percentage: a 20% loss leaves 80, so you need 20 ÷ 80 = 25% to recover. Months to recover assumes the monthly return compounds: it's the number of months until (1 + monthly return) to that power equals (1 + gain needed).
